रियो डि जेनेरो ब्राज़ील के रियो डि जेनेरो राज्य की राजधानी एवं देश का दूसरा सबसे बड़ा नगर है। यह शहर दक्षिण अमेरिका का तीसरा सबसे अधिक जनसंख्या वाला शहर है। रियो डि जेनेरो शहर करीब दो शताब्दियों तक ब्राजील की राजधानी बना रहा, 1763 से 1822 तक पुर्तगाली औपनिवेशिक काल के दौरान और फिर 1822 से 1960 तक ब्राजी़ल के एक स्वतंत्र राष्ट्र के रूप मे उदय के बाद। १८०८ से १८२१ तक यह पुर्तगाली साम्राज्य की भी राजधानी था। आमतौर पर यह रिओ के नाम से जाना जाता है, शहर का एक दूसरा उपनाम A Cidade Maravilhosa यानि अद्भुत शहर भी प्रचलित है।
